چکیده
Abstract The effects of organic matter amendments (OMA) on soil fertility in permanent cropping systems like orchards is under-studied compared to annual systems. We evaluated experimentally the impact OMAs almond ( Prunus dulcis ) over a two-year period with applications. Two OMAs, derived from composted green waste (GWC) or manure wood chips (MWC), were applied as surface mulch and control at two sites different textures (sandy loam loamy sand). increased moisture content (0–0.1 m depth) both by 27–37%. Both inorganic N sandy (GWC: 194%; MWC: 114%) sand 277%; month following application, but concentrations quickly decreased values similar those plots. After two-years, GWC MWC cation exchange capacity (CEC) 112% 29%, respectively, site, no change was observed site. greatest increase extractable K occurred GWC-amended plots site even though initial concentration higher. carbon (SOC) after years, SOC greater. Our results suggest that can significantly improve one applications, gains appear be dependent texture than nutrient OMA.

The Ultimate Soil Survey in One Pass: Soil Texture, Organic Matter, Ph, Elevation, Slope, and Curvature
The goal of accurately mapping soil variability preceded GPS-aided agriculture, and has been a challenging aspect of precision agriculture since its inception. Many studies have found the range of spatial dependence is shorter than the distances used in most grid sampling. Other studies have examined variability within government soil surveys and concluded that they have limited utility in many...

ABSTRACT Soil fertility amendments, including composted cotton-gin trash, swine manure, a rye-vetch green manure, or synthetic fertilizers, were applied to subplots and tillage on bare soil; or tillage followed by surface mulch with wheat straw were applied to main plots to determine the effect on the incidence of southern blight caused by Sclerotium rolfsii, yield of processing tomato, and soi...
متن کاملEffect of Organic Amendments on Half-Highbush Blueberry Production and Soil Fertility
Five treatments were compared using two half-highbush blueberry cultivars (cv Chippewa and Polaris) transplanted and grown for their first three growing seasons at a site in Boutiliers Point, N.S., a Gibraltar brown sandy loam (Ferro-Humic Podzol). The five treatments were as follows: Alfalfa meal + rock P + wood ash; NPK fertilizer; Municipal Solid Waste (MSWC) compost; Ruminant compost; food ...

An understanding of agroecosystems is key to determining effective farming systems. Here we report results from a 21-year study of agronomic and ecological performance of biodynamic, bioorganic, and conventional farming systems in Central Europe. We found crop yields to be 20% lower in the organic systems, although input of fertilizer and energy was reduced by 34 to 53% and pesticide input by 9...
